Hello 175, I don't remember the last time we saw each other

So as many of you know, John and I have changed our lives in a BIG way and have committed to be healthy and get to a healthy weight and place in our lives. This has been a huge change for our family, not just us. The people around us had to go through our crazy mood swings when our bodies were detoxing from processed foods and while we have a long way to go, we have come so far, I had to share.

This morning was a huge moment for me, I hit my 30lb mark, according to our scale. I was telling John this morning that I am so happy to be here because I cannot remember when I was 175 last. I think it might have been about 7.5 years ago when we got married, but even then I am not sure. I have been "dieting" my WHOLE life that I cannot tie my weight to a time in my life. HOW SAD IS THAT!?!? Well I am not longer dieting and I am living my life, HEALTHY!

I am also proud to say John has lost over 40lbs and we are all so proud of him. This has been a huge struggle for both of us, but I think John has made the biggest changes in his daily life and deserves credit for it! GO JOHN!!

God hears the littlest voices

It was a typical Wednesday afternoon in the Duncan house. The kids were playing having a good time. Alexander was eating a bowl of popcorn when he tripped over his sisters foot. When he came crashing to the ground his neck slammed into the Tupperware container his popcorn was in. I didn't think it was that big of a deal until I set him on the counter and asked him what was hurt. He couldn't talk, he pointed to the side of his neck and there was this huge bulge on his neck. It looked like there was this huge mass in his neck and he began to turn blue and was having trouble breathing. We immediately put ice on the bulge and decided he needed to be taken to the hospital. At this point he was talking to us and he was breathing again, but not normal. We explained to Natalia and my Nephew, Sam that Alexander had to go to the hospital to make sure he was ok. Natalia immediately started crying and kept saying it was an accident and she was so scared her brother was going to die. We assured her he was going to be ok, he just needed to be seen by a doctor to make sure they didn't need to give him any "medicine" to make him 100% better.
Once we were all in the car, Maria driving, me in back seat with Xander, we explained to the kids he was going to be fine and everyone needed to stay calm because we were trying to keep Xander from being upset. When he would cry or talk the bulge would raise out more. Maria told the kids to pray, pray that God will keep him safe. I began to pray in my head, but Sam, prayed out loud. He prayed to God to heal his cousin and make him better because he didn't want him to be hurt and he wanted him to be ok. Ok, let me tell you, this was the SWEETEST thing I have ever heard a 4 year old do, Maria and I were welling up with tears because it was just so sweet!
We got to the hospital safely, John had just pulled in right before us. He came and Got Xander out of the car and the three of us went in. Xander was breathing better but not himself. We explained what happened and they put us right into a room. The nurse began talking to us, checking his temp, blood pressure, blah blah blah...you know the drill. About 5 minutes later Xander snapped out of it and was totally fine, the bulge was almost GONE. It was the strangest thing ever. I think the nurse was a little surprised too! She looked him over said he looked great and to bring him back if we had anymore issues.
Besides just being a little sore where he hit, he is doing wonderfully.
THE POWER OF PRAYER is truly amazing.
Neither Maria or myself self Wednesday night. WE were talking yesterday about how we were so energized by the holy spirit and his fast healing, it was amazing and overwhelming. God is great and Sam is a little hero in my book this week!

Exciting week all around

Next week is an exciting week for us and friends.

On Monday our friends found out next Wednesday they leave for China to FINALLY bring home their baby girl and we are so excited for them, I had to blog about it. God is good and he is lining things up nicely for them. What a blessing for our friend, Stacee, she gets to spend mothers day with ALL THREE of her children.

Yesterday we finally heard from Alexander's doctor, they have schedules his surgery for Wednesday as well. What an exciting day all around. Most people wouldn't be excited for their child to have surgery. While I hate having my children go under the knife, it is exciting because Alexander will be able to HEAR again! This is something we look forward to because its such a simple thing we all take advantage of! We feel very blessed the doctors can fix his hearing.

So the plan is for the doctors to go in, remove the tubes and replace them with a brand new pair! YAY! The procedure is SUPER quick and the recovery time is only a few hours.

Prayers for safe travels to the Hurst Family and for a safe surgery for Xander!

Xander's ears

So for those of you who follow this...

Here is an update on our little man.

Mom and I have noticed Alexander was beginning to lose parts of words he once said and with all the troubles of Xander's ears we decided it was time for a trip to the ENT again.

We took him in last week feeling hopeful he would pass his hearing test. However, shortly into his test we realized he wasn't passing with flying colors like the last one. This is what we suspected, but had hoped we were wrong. He is basically where he was before his surgery last year. The only difference this time is even with his hearing loss, he can hear a lot more because he knows what the words sound like. Where as last year he didn't know what any of the sounds were, he had no prior acknowledgment of them. This year they were also able to test his ears individually so we now know he is able to hear in one ear better than the other. This may carry into adult life, but we are hopeful and trust in the grace of God he will grow out of this!

The plan is to go in for surgery once more. This surgery will be just a bit longer than the last since they will be removing his old set of tubes (which are not functioning) and place new tubes in so the drum of the ear will vibrate again. Luckily Xander's hearing loss is only temporary and can be fixed. We see this as a blessing because it could be so much worse.

For now, we sit patiently waiting for the Surgery Schedule to contact the insurance company and give us a call with a time and date.

Again we appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers for Xander!

Alexander or should we say Xander the great

My gosh how a little encouragement goes a long way. We have been really encouraging Alexander, Xander as he calls himself now, to "use his words." This has been a huge step in the right direction for him since for so long now he hasn't talked.

These past few weeks his language has exploded and while we have to remind ourselves not to use his words, wawa aka water, he also reminds us sometimes its better for him if we do. I.e. the Xander thing. The last few days he has been correcting us when we call him by name, Alexander, or nickname, Bubba and says, "NO! Me Xander!" This not only is a reminder to me he is catching up with his lack of speech, but also a reminder my cute little baby is becoming a handsome little man.

So much has changed in the last 3 weeks with his language, we find ourselves trying to forget "Alexander language." Now we just have to simply listen and he tells us as if he has been saying it right form the get go.

I cannot expressed the joy this brings to me because for so long I thought he would always be behind. This worried me greatly with him starting school in the fall, I didn't want him frustrated and hating it. I want it to bring him joy like it brings to Natalia. No parent ever wants their child to struggle, but I'm having a hard time watching both of them sprout up and take off before my eyes!

One day my kids will be independent. They wont need their mommy or daddy to give them a glass of milk, they will get it themselves. They won't need us to carry them to bed because we will be there long before they turn off the lights. So even on the hard days when Natalia is being her tuddy self and Xander just walks behind us whining all day "want you mommy!" or "want you daddy!" we remind ourselves, I will miss this when it is gone.

But I will enjoy every second of their lives!

Most of you may laugh and find this post silly but for me its life:

Yesterday was a dose of reality for me of just how much my little Natter Bug is growing up. We were running late for school I had playfully mentioned dropping her off at the door like most of the other parents do so she made it into chapel before school started. (I have all three kids right now so just getting them out of the car takes a few minutes) To my surprise Nat thought this was a great idea, "I can do it mom, I am a big girl." Thanks for the reminder kid, but I didn't need it. I know she is getting big, I am just not accepting it!
As I pulled up to the drop off I was thinking to myself "will she go straight to Mrs Thompson or book it else where?" There were no other cars so I thought I could stand there and watch her go in. I let her out of the car explained to her to go straight in to Mrs Thompson and let her know she was there. But again I said, "I can just run you in quick" "No, love you mom!" as Nat bolted into the worship center, straight for our friend Stacee and down the aisle...There was a car behind me now so I couldn't watch to make sure she didn't walk back out of the worship center. For all of you who know me know my anxiety got the best of me so I looped through the drop off one more time to make sure she wasn't out playing in the foyer then drove home. I immediately called John, "Please tell me I have nothing to worry about, she will go straight to Mrs T." He assured me she was a big girl and she would. "But shes only 4! I just dropped a 4 year old off and expected her to go where she needed to!" What was I thinking?!?!?
When I got home, I couldn't stop thinking about how Mrs. T had once said to me, "since I know you walk her in, if I don't see her I assume she is home for the day" So that got me thinking, what IF she DIDN'T see Nat! ARG! I text Stacee: "Good morning! Are you at school by chance this morning" She text me back, she was for a bit but not long asks me if everything is ok. I explain to her about dropping Nat off and I worry about EVERYTHING! THANK God she saw Nat said hello to her and saw her run straight to Mrs. T! Thank you Stacee for relaxing me. (and Mary as I called her in a panic too!) Mrs T told me that afternoon when I picked Nat up she had asked Nat if she came in by herself this morning. Nat had said yes. She told Nat she was a big girl and did some extra praising. Mrs T and I were thinking: This might just be the answer to our issues of her throwing a fit when I drop her off in the morning as she always wants me to stay and hang out with her at school.
So now that you are bored and laughing at me: Yesterday was a pretty big milestone for us. Our little 4 year old is our big 4 year old! It has been nothing but joy, even on the hard days, watching her grow but man it has gone by far more quickly than I ever thought it would!

A tube is out! Well, ALMOST

When Alexander saw his allergist a few weeks back he had mentioned the tube in his right ear was ready to bail! This is a good thing, means the tubes are working like they should. Well this last week he would not leave his right ear alone and then began telling me it hurt. "me ear hurt!" LOL I love the language of small kiddos! I took him in to his pediatrician yesterday, she confirmed the right tube did fall out of the ear drum but of course, nothing can be simple for Alexander and the tube is stuck in his ear. Its not a big deal, just have to put drop of hydrogen peroxide in it to loosen wax and it should fall out. It was just one of those, "of course it would be stuck, it's Alexander!" moments.

Christmas Blessings

This Christmas was truly a joy. It was so much fun this year watching the kids enjoy opening their gifts, putting milk and cookies out for Santa, waking up to their Santa gifts, and being joyful to give to others. But I must say my favorite part of Christmas this year was when Natalia told Maddie and Alexander about Jesus' birthday and the party they had for him at school. Even after the excitement of all the goodies of Christmas, she still remembered it was his birthday.
We had a wonderful Christmas this year. It was a bit different than past Christmases. We usually have a bunch of people here for brunch and dinner and its a busy crazy day. This year was a bit different. We opened gifts the night before since we had people coming in the morning. We spent the morning with Johns family and my parents. It was a nice quite morning and time well spent. We had a very lazy rest of the day with everyone playing with all their new goodies. Natalia was consumed with her Camera and "computer", Alexander riding his "harley" and cat tractor, John Dangerous Hunting and flying his helicopter, Tiffany wine tasting, Nanna staying warm with her new gloves and blasting music from her new brookstone speakers (those things are LOUD!) and papa busily looking online for the best deal on a generator for the motor home. We ended our wonderful Christmas day with an amazing ham dinner! Happy Birthday Jesus! Thanks for giving us such a wonderful day!

Our children are so blessed to have a cousin who loves making things for them. These are the newest addition to their collection of hand made goodies from their cousin Rhonda and let me tell you, they LOVE them. Alexander is in love with his hat and wears it all the time. Rhonda is extremely talented and can make ANYTHING! She has even made Alexander a bi-plane.

This update is for all the people who have been telling me how much they love this blog and how they love the details:

As many of you know we have battled with poor Alexander and his lack of staying "healthy" and germ free. We have been blessed with some really great doctors who are determined to give Alexander the BEST quality of life possible.

Last year when we found out Alexander was not able to hear it was heartbreaking for me as his mother because I didn't know what to do for him. We didn't know if putting tubes in his ears would help him hear again or not but luckily it did!!
At this point Alexander is hearing above average and we are focusing on catching up his speech since he was suffering from secondary hearing loss until he was 18 months. These past few weeks have been awesome. Alexander is finally starting to say two and three word sentences, which for most kids should have been happening 6-10 months ago. But hey its a long way from where he was and he is doing amazing. His favorite line right now is "baby its cold outside" or "no you stink mama" since he is almost potty trained and when he has an accident I say "wooooow you stink Alexander!" LOL The things you love when you are a mom.
Alexander will return to OHSU next months to have his hearing and ears checked once more and with all hope we will continue moving forward.

we also have had to tackle the battle of Alexander and his pesky wheezing! Which is not a fun thing to tackle while you are between insurance companies.(he now has insurance again, thank you LORD!) Luckily he has an amazing Dr who still would see him and let us make payments! She than sent us over to an allergist where we found out he has asthma and is allergic to a number of things, including some foods. Over the past three months he has been on a medication to alleviate his asthma symptoms and we have been giving him small amounts of the foods he is allergic to in order to build a tolerance. With great success the preventive medication for his asthma has been amazing. He has made is through three colds without being glued to the couch with his neb! This is a HUGE accomplishment for him. Unfortunately the food thing did not go over well, but his allergist is awesome and is not giving up. He is going to explore some other options to try and make Alexander's day to day life a bit easier. It really is awesome to have a DR care about your child as much as you do.
Need less to say: we are ironing out the wrinkles!

Chirstmas Star

This last Thursday, the 16th of December, Natalia's school had their Christmas program. Naturally this being our first "event" of this sort we had to bring the video camera and the digital camera. (also I am on the yearbook staff so...well you know me.) Anyhow, the kids did this adorable little story about the littlest christmas trees, the birds who decorated the trees, and the stars which shined from above. Natalia's class were stars and she shined so bright and was sooooooooo cute! First Field Trip

Natalia had her first ever field trip in school this year. They didn't go far, just up the road to the farm to pic out their pumpkins, have a little snakc, and play some games. Its such a joy to go along these field trips and see how much fun these kids have with their teacher and how every moment becomes a learning opportunity. Natalia has the best teacher for her right now and she completely adores her. I am so thankful we were able to get her into Bethel, it has made the world of difference for her. Happy Fall!

over the past several months our family has learned, life is not as hard as we tend to think it is. Sometimes we hold onto people for the wrong reasons when it is just better to let them go and make room for the people who really matter in life.
This being said, the kids and I have made room for some really great friends in our lives both new and old and enjoy the time we have with them more and more each time we get together. It is also very nice for me to be able to break out of my box and have new friends. We have been blessed over the years with awesome friends, but it is always nice to have friends from school.
Natalia's long time friend, Maddox and his mother, Kaelish so kindly treated us to a night out at the Disney on Ice show. We had a fantastic time and again was reminded how important friends are in life. Here are a few pictures from the kids trip to the Rose Garden.

My dear friend of 15 years so graciously took pictures of my family last night and I thought, what better time than now to finally update my blog! I know it has been a long time. Photos by Andrea is the name...and Andrea is AMAZING! She is so patient with the kids and really lets them just be them. She helps direct them but doesn't make them feel like they are being bossed around. This is the first time ever we have truly been happy with the pictures we had done and we have no regrets! Can you find the princess?

We often spend our mornings cleaning up the house, our rooms, and putting away laundry. Natalia's room usually takes the longest, beings she has so many stuffed animals. Well like any other day we get things straightened out, go down stairs have lunch and then its time for nap. Usually after it has been quite for about 20 mins I go up and pick at the kids to make sure they are sleeping...I peek in Natalia's room and this is what I find...

When she wakes up later that day I ask her why she took all of her stuffies out from where they belong? Her reply, "they were tired and needed a nap too mom!" In that, "are you really that dumb mom?" kind of voice.

Salut to the firemen

While on one of our walks a few weeks ago we walked passed the fire station like we do so many time. This day was different...the firemen invited the children in to see the trucks. This was a HUGE deal to the kids. (of course I didn't have my dang camera) Alexander was in heaven pretending to drive and they girls were climbing all over the trucks. Later in the day when we got home, Natalia decided they needed cookies...The children helped make the firemen several dozen cookies. I am not sure how many actually made it to the over before the dough was eaten! Thank goodness it was egg free :)

Pilot J. Duncan

John has wanted to get his pilots license for a very long time now. Recently our friend, Bob received his license and has asked John to join him flying. Finally about two weeks ago John was able to go up with him. He even was able to fly the plane a little.

The kids patiently waited for him to fly over the house so they could see daddy flying in the plane. They were overwhelmed with excitement when they saw the plane!

I don't think I will ever be able to get into one of those little plans, but I have a feeling they are going to be in our life big time, here shortly.

Joy in your heart

We don't always get to spend enough time together as a family so when we do I try to take as many picture as I can. I feel I am an extremely blessed person with a loving husband and awesome kids.
Natalia is turning into such a girl now and isn't out little Bug anymore. She is coming home from school telling us about all the wonderful things she has been taught and prays before her meals now. Its just so sweet.
Alexander has really begun to turn the corner of being out baby into this little boy. His vocabulary has soared and he is really finding his place in this house. Although he can be such a boy at times, he is the quite one.

WE decided to do a much over due ladies night with the help of awesome Adam as our DD we went from Darcells (the "dudes") to a handful of bars. WE had a great night and had the best DD ever. He so gladly put up with four drunk ladies that had way too many giggles and silly ideas. Thank you ladies, it was a wonderful night!

with John working like a maniac we took a much needed family day and headed for the beach. Natalia has never been in the water at the beach before and with having John and my dad to watch over Alexander I took advantage of some one on one time with my girl. I explained how the little channel that runs down the middle of the beach is not safe and we do not go in alone, but of course Natalia had to learn on her own. Thank goodness her papa was right there to save her.
We also discovered on this trip, Alexander no long likes sand, in fact he hates it. HE is completely pissed when he gets in it and just would like nothing to do with it!

Gilberts Village

For all of you who have never been to Gilberts Village in Salem, you need to go. The place is amazing. The kids must have played in the outdoor park for two hours. They would have played longer had we not told them we needed to keep moving along. Its especially nice for us because we get in FREE! WOO HOO We have an OMSI membership so the Village is free for us.. As you can see in the pictures, this place is amazing for young minds...and adults too.

Sam turned two this past January! My how time flies! I was recruited to make the cake and cupcakes for his party. My decorating skills are lacking a bit but the cake was GOOD! I have since been recruited to do other cakes.

So calendars will be the death of me! I got this great idea to make calendars for my mother in-law and Maddie's mother for their birthday's this past week. Don't know why I do the crazy things I do, but anyhow. I made monthly calenders, because I didn't know how to actually just print the months, I typed up these little saying and then got to work on their prints. These are the final results in order:

My aunt Cindy and cousin Olivia came out for lunch this past Sunday. We took a walk down to the clubhouse and Natalia wanted to take her FJ down there. About half way down she gave up on trying to steer it and made Olivia jump in and ride it the rest of the way. As any of you who have been to my house know, there is a hill going back up to my house so getting the FJ back home was not going to be easy. So Aunt Cindy hopped in and drove it home! She is so teeny tiny she was under the weight limit for it! LOL

Bowling with Maddox

Natalia's "boy" friend Maddox, turned 4 last weekend and had a party at the bowling alley. I was a little nervous going with all three kids, but it actually turned out rather well. The kids had a BLAST! Maddie, of course, was stand offish in the beginning but once she realized how much fun it was, she loved it. Alexander absolutely loved it from the get go and kept trying to go up with bowling balls when it wasn't even his turn! I was shocked how well he did only being 17 months old.

I have to admit, I have a pretty amazing little girl. She has a natural rhythm to her and just really enjoys listen and dancing to music. She was more than thrilled when I showed this game to her. She could not wait to play it, she had no desire to learn how the game was play she wanted to JUST DANCE! And that she did!

As always with our silly friends, we had a great time bringing in the new year. Everyone composed themselves nicely! It was great food, great times, great friends. "just dance" was the game of the evening, as you some what have to be intoxicated to really do well in this game! The boys brought down the house with their version of can't touch this! After Sanata left gifts for the kids they got to open gifts from family. It was so much fun to see all three of them get so excited about the gifts they got! Let me tell you these children are SPOILED by their grandparents. Nana and Papa Wood got the power wheels and Nee Nee and Papa Kuskey got them a playhouse and other little items. Their aunties spoiled quiet well too!

Gift exchange with the Sigler Family

We don't usually buy for friends, but the Sigler Family has really become a huge part of our family is really more like family to us now. Their boys are so awesome to our kids and we really enjoy being a part of things with them. The came over Christmas eve night a did a gift exchange with us. All the gifts were so awesome this year, you could tell we all put a lot of effort into getting stuff for one another that was truly a meaningful gift! Tiffany FINALLY got scrabble, thank you Kristen.

WE decided this year we were going to bake for Christmas. WE had friends over on Christmas eve and spent the entire day baking. It was a total blast, we only had one disaster but was able to fix it. I am sure we all gained weight just by making the stuff we did! But oh was it a yummy Christmas eve!

Natalia finally gets her first haircut!

We have been holding out FOREVER on getting Natalia's hair cut, but finally came to the point her hair was so out of control it didn't look nice anymore. Kristen convinced us to take her in and get her hair trimmed. We ended up with the nicest women who has a three year old at home, so she totally was awesome with Nat. She trimmed all the baby hair off so her hair would be even and left her look like such a big kid!

John an dI have choosen to take Nat out of MPS and enroll her into Bethel. This is due to the time consumption required by me in the classroom. We also from day one really wanted to have her in a biblical school. But we gave the whole co-op thing a try, unfortunately it just didn't work out for us. Nat and her friend Sarah took a Sunday afternoon and built their first gingerbread houses together, or should I say their mommies followed instruction and built the houses for them. They turned out to be quiet the little master pieces. Nats is still proudly being displayed on the bookcases. Rumor has it Sarah's uncle attacked hers.

we had a really great thanksgiving this year. John and I have decided we are going to start our own tradition and have fun with the people who want to be around us.
Jenna flew in from Vegas and spent the holiday weekend with us. We backed a lot in to such a small weekend.
Thanksgiving day we spent the morning at the Newkirk house enjoying the annual pj breakfast they have their. Then we hoped on over to the Sigler house where we had an awesome lunch. Adam smoked a turkey in his tragger and John fried up one as well. After the lunch we headed over to John parents house where his sister cooked as well, but we were so full we didn't end up eating. It was still nice to see family though. After hanging with family we headed back to the Sigler's house, loaded up the cars and headed out to the winder wonderland at the pir. We managed to load 15 people into the Sigler's SUV and drive through. It was an interesting experience to say the least.
The day after Thankgiving Jenna and I were CRAZY and went to Walmart at 5am and got a few great deals! And it only took 2 hours to check out! LOL In the evening we went to pioneer square and wanted to see the tree lighting. Unfortunately we were misinformed on the time and we missed the lighting but still enjoyed music and hot chocolate. We then left the tree lighting and headed up to the Oregon Zoo and enjoyed the Zoo lights.
Jenna decided to change her ticket and stay and extra day and the poor girl ended up having a horrible trip home with canceled flights and bus trips and it was just a mess. But need less to say we had a great weekend and really enjoyed having her here with us for the holiday!

Natalia decided she wanted to be Madagascar for Halloween this year, so we went for a jungle theme with all three kids and paraded around downtown MAC.

For about a month or so now John has been talking about going Kiwi picking. Now we had no idea that kiwis even grew in Oregon, but there has been this sign hanging in Dundee saying, " u-pick kiwis." Well yesterday we decided it was a great day to go. We had no idea how they grew and we certainly didn't know there were wo types that grew. Need less to say, it was fun and it was a learning experience. Not to mention on top pf a gorgeous hill with AWESOME views!

as I have posted around this time every year, Pacific Foods so graciously hosts a harvest festival for the families of the employees to come out for a BBQ and get some pumpkins. This year they had the festival at the champoeg vineyards. It was a much smaller function than normal, which I must say was so nice. The kids had a blast playing in the vineyard, under the walnut tree and of course in the crates full of pumpkins! The picture of Natalia where she looks like she is glowing is my new all time favorite picture of her.

Natalia's surgery

On October 16th 2009 Natalia had to have her tonsils and adenoids removed because she suffered from sleep apnea. If you are not aware, apparently this is a huge issue in children and can cause all kinds of issues. We found it to be best to have hers removed. She has recovered well from surgery and finally went back to school today. Her friends from school made her this sweet little poster, which now hangs on the wall in my entry way ( as per orders of the princess).

A day at the pumpkin patch with Family

a few weekends ago the Duncan's loaded up and spent the most part of the early day with the Kittridge/Phillips' and then Newkirk Families at the Fir Point Famrs pumpkin patch. We had the best time and the kids just loved it. Alexander was amazed by everything there and loved loved loved eating pumpkins! :( YUCK! Kids will be kids though! It was time well over due with our families getting together for something other than a birthday. I have forgotten how much fun I have with my cousins! And their families of course!

Our sweet little Maddie Magoo will be turning Two on November 9th 2009, while she will not be at out house til the following weekend, we plan to celebrate then! Its amazing how fast these kiddos are growing up!

Light the Night 2009

As all of you know, we created a team to honor my father in the Light the Night Walk. For me this walk was a huge deal and it is was an even bigger deal my father would be walking with us. Almost a year ago my dad had surgery and we were not sure if he would even be here today, but he is and he is doing awesome! WE did this walk to celebrate his life and that he was living with cancer, but he is alive!

We managed to raise about $600 thanks to all of our awesome friends and family! It was so awesome to have our friends there to walk with us, walk with my dad really! He walked the whole thing and did awesome.

I cannot tell you the feeling of walking with thousands of people and all the balloons. Its an amazing sea of red balloons and then some white, being cancer survivors, and gold, being those who have passed. It was awesome!

Enchanted Forest

Nanna wanted to take a trip to the Enchanted Forest while she was here so they VERY last day they were open for the season we drove down and spent a few hours there.

Nanna so bravely went into the rabbit hole and indian caves with Natalia! Thank goodness she was there because mommy couldn't do it and daddy was a little too big. Natalia had the best time.

We also went to the outdoor theater while we were there and say "snow white and the seven dorks." Natalia of course had to have her picture taken with the princess!

John recently took part in a chilli cook of at the MAC Evergreen airport. Its was a very soggy and wet day so what better time to suit up and go puddle stomping. This is when i discovered my poor son does not have a coat! YIKES!
That had this really awesome little peddle planes and need less to say the kids thought they were the BEST possible things in the world!
John also kicked butt with his chili and took first place! He has become quiet the cook lately. We are very proud of him!

Natalia is currently going to McMinnville Playschool, co-op preschool in Mac and she is loving it. She is able to expres herself in so many ways and has become quiet the painter.

Ever since the day Natalia was born her papa has talk about the day he would ride with her on his Harley. While this wasn't the "big" ride he would like to take her on one day, this was a ride around the neighborhood. Natalia was born to be on a bike. Leave it to John to think it would be a great idea to take all three children to his company picnic at one in the afternoon. Keep in mind the children are typically feed lunch and in bed by 12:30 at the latest. Need less to say, we had a nice lunch with three cranky children. Nat played in the jump house and got a face painting on her arm: she refuses to let them paint on her face. Maddie wanted nothing to do with anything happening at the picnic. But they did all sleep very well for the car ride down to Cottage Grove.

The three Duncan children are nearly impossible to photograph as one unit. We have been trying for a year now to get a good picture of the three children together. We have ONE time successfully had one OK picture taken of the three of them and one really cute picture of their feet. This is yet another failed attempt at a picture of the Duncan children. My have worked out had my assistant been a little more helpful, JOHN!

Alexander's First Birthday Party!

We decided to have Alexander's party the weekend before his birthday so Madison could be a part of it. so we had his party this last Saturday and while not everyone who we wished could have came, we had a lot of really great people who showed up to take part in celebrating this past year of Alexander's life.
I have spent the last several months making a video of his first year and as soon as I can get you tube to work for me, I will post it for everyone to view.
Its hard for me to think my little baby boy is one already. I did good though and I didn't cry at the party. Its just hard when you know you're never going to get to do a 1st birthday party again. I wish I would have done a few things differently for his party, but when you live in a house with boys, you're plan change a little. All in all, Alexander's party went really well and there were a lot of really good friends and family who came.
Thank you to everyone who has made this last year so much fun. And thank you for all the people who have helped me with Alexander and his challenges, and mine for that matter. His one year check up is on the first of September so I will keep you posted on how he is. But I am guessing he is just perfect, but yes, I am a little bias. What can I say? I am madly in love with that little boy.

Our good fiend Adam is blessed to have his birthday during the best time of the year to go camping. Usually the firs part of August is gorgeous weather, this year it was a little rainy at the coast but we didn't let that stop us from having a great time!

There were lots of us there, 5 campsites, lots of children, good drinks, friends, and food!

This was also the first camping trip Natalia could remember and the first one for Alexander! They had the best time and we are already planning the trip for next year. Us Duncan's are planning another weekend to go camping already too!

Kristen invited us to join her and her friends to play in the Wilsonville fountains a few weeks back when we had the REALLY hot weather. It is a really neat little park for the kids. Nat was a little mad at me when we had to leave, she wanted to stay and play but I really needed new tires on my car, so off to les schwab we went.

Alexander gets a hair cut

Alexander was starting to get the little duck tail curly ques sticking out of the sides and around the ears so I decided it was time for a hair cut. And who better to give him his first hair cut than his papa! Took us a few minutes to decide how we were going to get him set up for the cut, but we figured it out. He looks like such a big boy now!

A tea Party

A few Sunday mornings ago Natalia pulled out this tea set a friend of mine bought her when she was a baby. I have never let her play with it, its just has too much meaning to me, I just have been so afraid she would break it. Now that she is older, she has been dieing to have a tea party. I finally gave in:

She called her Nee Nee and Chelsea and asked them if they would like to come over for a tea party and unfortunately they were not able to make it. She was very broken hearten. Apparently her mother is not good enough to have a tea party with, either that or she just spends everyday with me and wanted someone different at her and Maddie's tea party. She asked if she could call up May May. She of course said YES! Mary is the best sport ever, she loaded herself up in her car and drove the 45 minutes to come have a tea party with her two little nieces! The girls had the best time and Nat was so happy to have her May May here! Now whenever she is talking to people she tells them, "you can come to my house for a tea party!" She cracks us up.

I didn't have a table cloth small enough for the girls' little Ikea table so I pulled out the nicest thng I could think of that would work, a Lois Vuitton scarf my sister gave me! SPOILED little girls!

We are loving going to the water park these days. We bought some sand and water toys and the kids just have a blast. Alexander likes it when he can sit on the side and just put his feet in the water. He is not at all like his sisters are.

This is what I am posting so far, I have tons more to post....

Some of you may or may not know this but us Duncan's we so very blessed to be given a time share for a week from a friend at John's work. Their time share is located in Eagle Crest, Or. Right near my grandparents...we were could stay for FREE! So, since we have been to the area tons of times we decided to trade out the week in Eagle crest for a week in CANADA!

We stayed for SEVEN nights in the North Village of Whistler in a 2 bedroom townhouse/condo. It was absolutely AMAZING! None of us have ever been there so it was awesome!

Memorial Day 2009

Every year now since Papa Duncan past away we have gone up on Memorial day to pay our respects to one of the greatest men I have ever met in all my life. While it is hard on all of us and over whelming to go up to Willamette National and see the thousands and thousands of flags, it is always humbling and eye opening.

The girls were so excited to be taking Papa and Da flowers, even though they had no idea what any of it meant. It was still so nice to see them excited about it.

If you have never been up to WNC, I ask you to make it a priority for next year on memorial day. You don't have to go and be a part of the ceremony they do. But just go and drive through and look at how gorgeous of a place it is. I can beat you will have goosebumps and a heavy heart!

We take trips to the park all the time, but it always seems that Daddy never gets to go. We had Maddie this past weekend for a few days longer than we normally do. It was nice because we actually got to go and do things as a family and have fun. We are starting to venture in out town a little more now that the weather is nicer. There is a park about 10 mins from out house called Discovery Meadows Park. I think by the pictures you can tell we had a really great time!

My family was all bunking it out at Jenna's. I haven't seen Fallon and Keegan in a couple of years so the kids and I decided to hop on a plane and surprise them by flying out to Vegas. Also, my mom had not yet seen my son! YIKES! Its hard to believe. So thanks to the cheap airline flying out of Eugene, which by the way is the closest airport to me that flies to Vegas, we hopped a short flight to Vegas. This is the first plane trip for Alexander and probably the 12th or more for Natalia, but this is the first one she remembers and understood what was happening so it was a lot of fun to take.

We think she was meditating and only looking like she was sleeping....ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Mother's Day

For mother's day this year we drove to Lincoln City and had lunch at Kyllos. Nat had so much fun because she finally got to fly her kite. For being a dollar store kite this kite flew damn good! In the evening we had dinner with the Sigler's and played at Sunset Park. It was a great end to a great Mothers day.

SO John bought Natalia a Disney Princess Stamp at the beach, she decided it was lipstick.

Making mothers day gifts

This year we decided the kids would make stuff for Nee Nee for mother's day. We don't have Maddie's done yet as she will not be here til this weekend. Good thing we are giving Nee Nee her gifts this Sunday :) Anyhow, the kids made stepping stones for the garden at Nee Nee and Papa's house. (Mom/Nana, if you lived closer and it wouldn't be a small fortune to mail concrete, you would be getting them too!)
